Meretz is Out of the Knesset: What Now for the Israeli Left?
A Conversation with Outgoing Meretz MK Gaby Lasky
Partners for Progressive Israel organized a webinar on Wednesday, November 16 at 12:30pm ET with Gaby Lasky, human rights attorney and member of the outgoing Knesset on behalf of the Meretz party.
Lasky reflected on the results of Israel’s November 1 elections through the lens of the Israeli left: With the Meretz party failing to clear the electoral threshold and enter the next Knesset, what could the progressive camp do now to resist the incoming far-right government, likely to be made up of Jewish supremacists, authoritarians, and religious fundamentalists? How could and should the left restrategize and reorganize in order to rebuild itself as an impactful political force? Is there a potential for progressive Jews and Arabs to work together politically? And, more fundamentally, what could be done to preserve democracy within the Green Line? Lasky spoke with Partners for Progressive Israel vice president, Karen Shapiro. A Q&A followed the conversation.
