Joint Meretz-Labor List for Jerusalem Election

The Jerusalem branch of the Meretz party has moved on from its recent internal dispute to launch a stronger campaign for the city council, this time in a joint list with the Labor party.  In contrast to the national level, where Labor is substantially stronger in the Knesset, Meretz is stronger than Labor on the municipal level in Jerusalem.  Therefore, Meretz candidates for the city council predominate, including three of the top four placements on the list and six of the eight individuals pictured here:

Our fellow blogger, Laura Wharton, is ranked second on the joint list.  In accord with the internal Meretz rotation agreement, Pepe Alau (front row above–with long gray beard) is first for now, with Meir Margalit (seated next to him) to replace him at the head midway through the term.  Pepe, Meir and Laura are incumbent Meretz members of the council.  In the photo below, Laura is flanked by two of her running mates:
