Former staffers for J Street have organized in New York, naming themselves after the third of Hillel’s classic questions, “If not now, when?” They staged a demo/prayer service on Erev Tisha B’Av. (For more background on this group, see this article in The Jewish Daily Forward.)

We know some of these people, especially Tamara Shapiro, who was executive director of the campus group we co-founded and nurtured, the Union of Progressive Zionists. The UPZ was rebranded and relaunched a few years ago as J Street U.

Here are two dramatic photos of the Tisha B’Av event, taken by Gili Getz (with more  viewable on Facebook):

Placard reads: “Stop the war on Gaza; End the occuaption; Freedom and Dignity for all.”
