Partners for Progressive Israel Statement on the Recovery of Ran Gvili, z”l
January 26th, 2026 – Partners for Progressive Israel welcomes with great relief the news of the recovery from Gaza of the body of Ran Gvili, z”l, the last of the Israeli citizens held hostage there. We lift up both the pain and the consolation of this moment for both the Gvili family and the wider hostage family community in Israel, especially after more than two years of intense struggle to keep the hostages at the very top of the nation’s agenda and to bring their family members home. We wish the extended Gvili family the comfort that this sad resolution brings.
With the hostage crisis now behind us, Israel’s government must facilitate in earnest the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in order to finally alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people of Gaza, and allow the process to move forward so that the Palestinian people as a whole will soon realize its right to self-determination and statehood alongside Israel.
