Partners for Progressive Israel Celebrates NCAG Announcement for Gaza

January 15th, 2026 – Partners for Progressive Israel celebrates the announcement of the transitional technocratic Palestinian administration in Gaza — the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) by the United States, and the arrival of the second phase of a long-term ceasefire in the enclave that will lead to the Palestinian people realizing its right to self-determination and statehood. We welcome this next step towards a future of security and peace for Palestinians, Israelis, and the wider region. These committee members have received the approval of both the Palestinian Authority and other Palestinian political factions, and we hope that this level of internal cooperation and prioritization of civilian welfare, infrastructure, and noncombatant governance is the basis for the renewal that residents of Gaza so desperately need after two and a half years of war.

At the same time, we are clear-eyed about the wider reality in which this announcement arrives. Despite the declaration of a ceasefire, the Israeli military is still actively conducting airstrikes and firing munitions in the enclave. The body of one Israeli hostage, Ran Gvili, remains unrecovered. Israel continues to occupy the eastern half of the Gaza Strip, and the “yellow line” border established by the Israeli military there is not only often unmarked, but its shifting limits are often established through a deadly practice of enforcement that has led to the deaths of Palestinian in Gaza, including children. The Israeli government also recently barred at least 35 international non-governmental humanitarian relief organizations from operating in Gaza, severely limiting the capacity within the Strip to address the humanitarian, medical, and infrastructure crisis there.

Partners’ Executive Director Rabbi Margo Hughes-Robinson said, “Any step forwards towards a real cessation of hostilities in Gaza is one that we welcome, and we hope that the announcement of the NCAG and its members is a first step towards meaningful civilian, non-Hamas governance in Gaza. The Palestinian people, just like their Israeli neighbors, deserve a representative democratic government that can serve their best interests and promote a lasting, just peace in the region. At the same time, the international community must step up to support both this second phase of this ceasefire and work for a lasting peace in the region – one marked not by Occupation and human rights violations but instead by dignity and democracy for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”
